Placing orders in many accounts
Order types, products, lots, bulk orders, slicing and the checks every order passes.
The order pad
| Field | What it means |
|---|---|
| Side | BUY (F1) or SELL (F2) |
| Lots / Quantity | Lots for futures and options, shares for stocks |
| Product | MIS intraday, CNC delivery, NRML carry-forward F&O |
| Order type | MARKET, LIMIT, SL (stop-loss limit), SL-M (stop-loss market) |
| Accounts | Every ticked account gets the order, in parallel |
Checks before every order
- Lot size — quantity must be a whole number of lots (
INVALID_LOT_SIZE). - Tick size — prices must be a multiple of the tick (
INVALID_TICK_SIZE). - Price band — LIMIT and SL prices must be within 10% of the last price (
PRICE_BAND). - Large orders — above ₹10 lakh per account you are asked to confirm.
- Kill switch and risk limits — see Risk limits and kill switch.
Fit to margin
Check margin in the order pad shows, for each selected account, the margin the order needs and how much is free, plus the quantity that fits when it is short. Nothing is placed.
Tick Fit to margin to have each account's quantity reduced before sending, to the largest whole number of lots its free margin allows. If not even one lot fits, that account is skipped with "Margin short". Other accounts are not affected. This saves the broker rejecting the whole order for margin.
- Zerodha, Dhan and Upstox: the margin comes from your broker's own margin calculator. Paper accounts need the full order value. Angel One has no published margin calculator, so its orders are sent unchanged with a note.
- Dhan needs your live price for the check. Without it, the order is sent unchanged with a note.
- Exits (orders that only reduce a position) are never reduced.
- The check adds one broker call per account, so the order takes a little longer to send.
Why was an order rejected?
Press Why? next to a rejected order in the Orders tab. You see:
- The cause, for example: the kill switch was on, a daily risk limit was reached, the quantity wasn't a whole number of lots, the price was too far from the last price, a broker login was needed, new orders were paused, or the broker's risk system didn't have enough margin.
- The facts that matter. For a margin rejection, for example, how much margin the order needs, how much is free now, and how much you're short by. These are your account's state now, which may differ from the moment of rejection.
- The exact steps to fix it, and a corrected quantity or price for lot and tick mistakes.
Explain in plain words (AI) rewrites the same explanation in your language: English, Hindi, Gujarati, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali or Kannada. It only uses those facts and never says what to trade.
Freeze quantity
Orders larger than the exchange freeze quantity are split automatically into allowed slices.
Cancelling and exiting
- Cancel an open order from the Orders tab (or Cancel all).
- Exit a position from the Positions tab with Exit, or close everything with Exit all.
